Acute Prescriptions

If you require medication for an acute problem you should request it from the Receptionist. The Receptionist will take details of your request with your phone number and pass to the Doctor. The Doctor may need to see or speak to you at his/her earliest convenience, before prescribing. It is not possible to have prescriptions ready immediately.

Repeat Prescriptions

The right hand side of your prescription has the list of your current medication printed, please tear off and keep, when your current medication is due, tick the items your require and either drop in or post. Alternatively you may telephone select Repeat Prescription from Menu, which may be answered by our Prescription Clerk or be connected to our Answering service, please speak clearly leaving details of your request, this line is available 24 hours per day. (Please allow 48 working hours).

NB You can now order your Repeat prescription online. You can register for Vision OnLine, please enquire with the Receptionist.

Repeat prescriptions; It is necessary to request your medication 48 hours (working hours) in advance. If you wish to avail of the Pharmacy Collection Service, you will need to allow an additional 48 hours, please indicate which pharmacy you wish it left for.

Patients are obliged to attend for a Medication Review as requested; this may be done during a routine appointment with the Doctor or by our Practice Nurse, if appropriate.

If you do not attend for Medication Review when requested, the Doctor will not renew your prescription request.

Collection of Prescriptions

1. Prescriptions should be collected personally or by a person who is over 16 years of age and known to the practice as your representative. Unless you have otherwise requested we leave them for your pharmacy.
2. Prescriptions can be left for collection by a Pharmacy of your choice if you request this at the time of ordering. Usually you will be able to collect the dispensed medication 48 hours later at that Pharmacy.

Medications requiring special monitoring.

Some medications require more intensive monitoring and you will receive an invitation to attend an appointment regularly with the Practice Nurse in order to ensure safe prescribing.

Prescribing Changes

There is extreme pressure from the Department of Health upon all GPs to reduce prescribing costs.

Items such as Skin Moisturising Creams, Bath Oils and Shampoos will not be prescribed unless there is a diagnosis of eczema or psoriasis.

Please see below a list of items which will no longer be issued. We hope you will understand the reasons for these measures in the current time of financial pressure.
